John takes a down-to-earth approach to financial planning, striving to make complicated financial topics feel uncomplicated.
John is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional (CFP®) and Magna Cum Laude graduate in Finance from Virginia Tech, with a Certificate in Financial Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University.
In 2016, John co-founded EVOadvisers – a continuation of Clair Financial Management, a Fee-Only Registered Investment Advisory and Financial Planning firm he founded after many years at GE in Financial Planning & Analysis roles. He gained valuable experience in diverse and global markets on assignments in locales ranging from Salt Lake City to Stockholm.
John’s expert advice has been shared on local TV news including NBC, CBS and ABC and has been quoted in the Washington Times, Forbes, Reuters and many more. John also produces and hosts the podcast EvoFi: A Finance Podcast For Humans, a show about money, economics, and being a human in spite of those things.
Outside of work, John gladly serves as Board Chair for the Board of Trustees at Chesapeake Academy and as Treasurer for The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation, which provides financial and emotional support to cancer patients. He loves being outdoors and living near the water, with his wife and three kids. If there’s any time left in the week, John plays guitar and bass in a local rock n’ roll band, swims with his local chapter of the Virginia Masters Swim Team, and trains at Vintage Boxing around the corner from the EVO office in Richmond.
